Desmon Silva is a fit, healthy, loving, hilarious, 22 year old new nurse that’s fighting for his life. Desmon comes from a family of nurses; his mother, father, and step mother are all nurses, so he followed in their footsteps. He graduated in October 2019 from Galen College of Nursing and immediately began his career, not knowing a pandemic was about to hit. While fighting the front lines in Tampa Bay area, Desmon contracted Covid-19 and influenza. He quarantined at home and was thought to have made a full recovery, until about 8 weeks after his recovery some unwarranted complications had presented. Desmon and Brooke, his girlfriend of 3 years, were driving home from their date night when Desmon suddenly started to feel funny and knew immediately something was wrong. They went to the ER where Desmon was suddenly paralyzed from the neck down. Due to these complications Desmon was intubated and now needs a ventilator to breathe for him. The virus is thought to have caused swelling on his spine which is why he is paralyzed from the neck down. In order to get the care he needed, Desmon was flown from Florida to Mass Gen by a private ICU Jet on July 25th to undergo treatment and have some of the best doctors work on his case. With this being said, his family, girlfriend, and close friends, are going through it physically and mentally. They are trying to preserve all their energy for Desmon and this road to recovery. I would love to help them through this time of hardship by keeping their bodies fueled with nutrition, especially since they are beyond scared, stressed, and unable to sleep. I want to make their days a little easier so they can continue to stay by Desmon’s side and support him through the hardest time in their lives. Desmon has a LONG road to recovery and lots of tests and treatments to undergo. I think providing any assistance where we can will go such a long way for this family.
