The story began in April 2021. They revealed the news to their families about their newest bundle of joy in July. Their daughter, Miss Fayeli 3 years old was so excited to have a sibling! In June, when they were at their routine check-up, they were offered genetic testing for their baby. On July 7, they had blood work done for their genetic testing. They were contacted by the doctor and were told they needed to do more blood work so they had more done on August 6. August 11, they were headed to Lake Shasta for a family vacation when they received a call that was going to change their lives FOREVER! They were told that they needed to come in for an ultrasound as soon as possible because the genetic testing came back that the baby had a high risk of having Trisomy 18. (Also known as Edwards' syndrome. Trisomy 18 is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of a third copy of all or part of chromosome 18. Many parts of the body are affected. Babies are often born small and have heart defects. Effects 1 out of 6000 to 8000 births) August 16 the doctors told them there was a high probability their baby has Trisomy 18. The only way to confirm was through an amniocentesis test or when the baby is born. They chose to not do amniocentesis because amniotic fluid was low and would cause more risk of losing the baby. Over the next 4 weeks, they had 2 more ultrasounds. On August 30, they decided to find out the gender and learned that they were having a Baby Girl. Their Sept 13 ultrasound showed baby girl was measuring 19 weeks, which was 3 weeks behind normal growth. The next ultrasound was pushed out 3 weeks instead of 2 because the doctor was feeling like her development was getting better. On Oct 4 at their ultrasound, their hearts sank when the Dr. confirmed Havenly Ariel was called home to be with Jesus. The devastating news filled their lives over the next 24 hours as they processed the news and told their family members. On Friday, October 8th, after 36 hours of labor, their little angel Havenly Ariel was born, carefully delivered by her Daddy. The relationships and bonding that Kodi and Shelby have experienced through this hard time have been remarkable and have them at a loss for words.
