Our dad, Kevin Hegwood, was diagnosed in February 2024 with small cell lung cancer and for the last year has responded well to cancer treatment. This allowed a year of more memories with our dad and our kids’ papa. He got to enjoy another year of Knoxville races and camping, birthdays, holidays, sporting events. He is all of our biggest fan. Unfortunately, the end of January 2025 our dad didn’t bounce back from his last chemotherapy treatment and when new scans were taken it was quickly discovered that the cancer had grown and moved to his brain. His health has declined significantly the last month and our dad is currently home surrounded by his family and being kept comfortable with the help of the Pella House Hospice team. Our mom is now his full time care giver and has been an absolute badass through all of this. She will be taking Short Term Disability leave while she cares for my dad in their home. If you can find it in your heart to prepare a meal for our mom and her support team we would be forever thankful. This would elevate a mental burden when her focus is on our dad right now. We could never express the appropriate amount of gratitude for the community of people who have already showed their love and support for us during this time but we will never stop trying.
