Support for the Spittle’s

Salem, MA

Story

Thank you for caring and sending love for the Spittle family. And thank you for visiting and sharing this page! As most of you know, Emma has spent lots of time in and out of the hospital. She had medical NEC as a premie and in 2017 she contracted RSV which shut her gut down. Since then, she has had more doctors appointments, hospital stays and medical devices than most of us combined. Each one isolating, frustrating and full of more questions than answers. The Spittle family takes each stay in stride, with Mandee spending every minute in the hospital advocating for Emma and Jeremy and Sophia holding down the fort at home. Each stay effects the whole family, emotionally and financially. Emma has had a pretty good run this past year since starting Jtube feeds, but was recently admitted on November 12th with a typical stomach bug. This acute illness significantly effected Emma’s GI system. She had to go on gut rest for a few days, only receiving IV fluids. And today, she continues to work on increasing her Jtube feeds and decreasing IV fluids to a point where her blood sugars maintain and she gets adequate hydration (a tough balance). With each feed increase, Emma’s has been having episodes of significant pain and sometimes vomiting, causing the team to advance feeds incredibly slowly. While the whole family was able to spend Thanksgiving together in Emma’s room, hospital policy doesn’t allow siblings to spend the night. Sophia hasn’t been able to spend a night with her mom or sister, and Emma hasn’t been able to spend a night with her dad or sister. I’m sure the whole family would say that is the hardest part. So, this page is to support the Spittle’s! Gift cards and donations are incredibly useful, especially with the holidays coming around. At times, Mandee and Jeremy may need help after school taking Sophia to the park until Jeremy can get home from work. Any dates will be added to the calendar section of this page. Meals can always help too, be mindful of their dietary restrictions! We all know times are tight, so sharing this page and sending healing vibes, strength to the Spittle family and Emma’s doctors, and love is always welcome!!
