We are reaching out to the community on behalf of the Holt family during this incredibly tough time following Nakota’s severe bull riding accident. In a split second, Nakota sustained a level 1 trauma injury that resulted in his jaw being broken in two different places. He underwent urgent surgery where doctors placed two plates, eight screws, and wires holding his mouth shut to repair the damage. For three days, Nakota was on a breathing tube, which was a challenging experience for him and his family, and he has currently been in the hospital for five days, receiving ongoing care. His recovery process is expected to be extensive, with a healing time of approximately 8 to 10 weeks. During this period, Nakota will be restricted to a liquid diet for the first several weeks then gradually moving to a puréed diet as he is going to have to learn and build the muscle back to chew after all the wires are removed which adds to the challenges he and his family are facing. As they navigate hospital visits and the demands of recovery, the Holt family is in need of assistance with essential expenses such as gas, food, medication, and other day-to-day necessities.
