Story
Read Dar's complete Caring Bridge page/story here. https://www.caringbridge.org/site/68c25151-f692-11ef-a6cc-1f0a4c68d22d?utm_source=website_share&utm_medium=share_button&utm_term=&utm_content=link_share_button&utm_campaign=private_home_page In January, Dar went in for her very first mammogram. She was called back for more imaging and ultrasound. On January 23rd, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer - Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (Progesterone and Estrogen Positive and metastasis in 2 Lymph Nodes). The first course of treatment (FINALLY) is a bi-lateral mastectomy with reconstruction at UW-Hospital on Monday, April 28th. Full recovery time is a good 10-12 weeks and the first 4 of those weeks will be the toughest. Dar will have lifting restrictions (less than a gallon of milk) for at least 4 weeks. In late May, pathology will determine what the next steps are (chemo is on the table at the moment due to her age and Oncotype score). During this time, Patrick will be finishing up his semester teaching at Carroll University on Saturday, May 10th and then will be intermittently subbing with Dar's Band until the end of the school year on June 10th. Dani & Derrick will continue with their activities and there may come a point when it is necessary to add kid rides to and from activities the Coughlin's needs request. Family will be with them for the first few weeks to provide an extra set of hands. Dar's prognosis is very good. There has been so much research for breast cancer treatments for which we are all very thankful! But it will be important for Dar to take things slow, rest and ask for help (which you all know will not be easy). The Coughlin's will be up for visitors after they get settled at home and even in the hospital (she'll be there for 3-4 nights). Please be in touch with Patrick 608-279-3999 or Dar 262-424-4715 if you'd like to visit. The Coughlin's are extremely thankful for the support during this time!
Special Notes
For the first 2 weeks, the Coughlin's would love really kid friendly meals. Dani is a pretty picky eater and it'll help to make things really easy for grandparent caretakers and Patrick. Once they are home from the hospital and into a routine, Derrick, Patrick and Dar are up for any sorts of delicious meals and there's no big need to accommodate Dani - don't worry, she'll be taken care of. Dislikes: Onions & Ketchup...Dar hates both of these!
