The Torres Family

New Rochelle, NY

Story

As some of you may know, and for those who do not, Wednesday, July 10, 2024, around 8:00 p.m., would be a day that Mayra and her loving family will never forget. It all started while Mayra was at home with her husband and brother-in-law. In the middle of a conversation, she suddenly felt dizzy and the worst headache of her life started to manifest. She asked her husband to help her into bed so she could rest a little and then resume her daily tasks, but she was unable to do so. She called out to her husband, whose swift response to take her to the emergency room proved to be a life-saving reflex (second nature to a first responder, I guess). A quick assessment of her physical appearance alongside her symptoms alerted the medical staff to perform a CAT scan. The results of that and two other CAT scans confirmed Mayra's worst nightmare. The doctor informed her that she had experienced a brain aneurysm, also known as a subarachnoid hemorrhage, and that she needed to be transported code red via ambulance to a higher level of neurosurgeons in the city. Her entire world came to a stop. As she struggled to believe it and thought of her children potentially being left motherless at such a young age, she and her husband began to share this devastating news with those closest to them. Family, friends, and even neighbors began to pray and plead with God for mercy, and that's exactly what He provided. God began to pour His blessings upon her and surrounded her with angels in the form of nurses, aides, doctors, and family members (including Cristina Barrios, also known as Cristy; Martha, Andres, Liz, and Joe, among others). Mayra's husband's NYPD Police friends and his superiors ensured he could focus solely on her recovery by having him assigned to her care under his precinct's Deputy Inspector, who is in charge. At the medical facility, numerous tests have been conducted, with more to come, but Mayra, a natural worrier (as those who know her can attest), is putting forth every effort. Currently, even a five-minute slow walk is enough to tire her, but she remains determined to continue pushing forward toward a full recovery so she can resume being the great mom, wife, daughter, and friend she was born to be. The medical team continues their efforts to uncover what happened and finalize her treatment plan, and while challenges remain, we are certain of God's greatness, repeatedly demonstrated. Mayra, her family, and friends will give glory to God for what He has done and continues to do in their lives. At this time, we ask for your support in showing the Torres family any possible assistance during this time of need. We sincerely appreciate your generosity and well-wishes, which we are sure will be of tremendous help. Today, we do it for them; tomorrow, it might (hopefully not) be for you. God bless you all, and thank you in advance for your kindness and compassion.
