Story

As many of you may already be aware, I recently discovered that I have a genetic mutation that increases my risk of developing breast, ovarian, and pancreatic cancer. Since 2022, I have been participating in the high-risk breast screening program at Women's College Hospital. This program has allowed me to undergo regular MRI and Mammogram screenings while also exploring options for preventative surgery to reduce my chances of developing breast cancer. During the course of these screenings, I had several MRI's and ultrasounds, which eventually led to a biopsy. The biopsy revealed the presence of atypical cells that, if left untreated, could potentially develop into cancer. Considering my previous consideration of preventative surgery, I have made the decision to undergo a preventative double mastectomy and DIEP reconstruction, utilizing my own tissue for the reconstruction process. The surgery is scheduled for December 2nd, and my recovery period is expected to be around 10-12 weeks. Many of you have kindly expressed your desire to support me during this time, and I am truly grateful for the overwhelming love and support that has been shown to me. My heart is filled with gratitude for each and every one of you. I have set this page up to make it easy to see what support is needed and when. It will be updated post surgery and ongoing as I continue with my recovery.
