Love for Lori + Family

Indianapolis, IN

Story

On Wednesday, October 2nd, Lori Benson was diagnosed with stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma, an aggressive, but treatable breast cancer. The plan right now is for Lori to have 16 weeks of chemotherapy, surgery, and later radiation if needed. We serve a mighty God who can do amazing things and we believe He will through the Bensons! Let's love on them through meals, gift cards, housecleaning, helping with laundry, etc. but most of all...praying! James 5:16 says "Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much." Prayer changes things because the real power behind our prayers is God! During this time Lori is memorizing Psalm 121 and we invite you to join with her in memorizing this wonderful Psalm on how God cares for His people. We will update this page as their needs change. Right now meals, cleaning, and occasional laundry help is appreciated. Emma and OJ (and their precious baby girl) are living with Lori and Ryan so please plan to feed 4 adults and one child when making a meal! If you are interested in sending a gift card for a restaurant or store, I have listed those in the special notes section. I am also adding buying Organic Produce as an option during the week to help the Bensons with Lori's juicing. Thank you for serving the Bensons and praying for them!

Special Notes

ADDRESS: 1362 N. Tuxedo St. Indianapolis, IN 46201 PHONE: 317-384-2209 (Lori) 463-269-8278 (Ryan) MEALS: Lori is not doing sugar or flour at this time as sugar feeds cancer. For meals, try to stick with whole foods (think whole 30; google whole 30 meals if you need ideas), nothing processed or anything with added sugar. (The rest of the family might appreciate an occasional "treat"). Lori can have raw honey & berries! If making pasta please use chick pea or brown rice pasta. Also Lori does not like cooked broccoli, only raw. Mild spice is ok, but nothing super spicy. If you are not sure on an ingredient or need meal ideas, feel free to text or call Jen McNary at 317-428-8182 or Lori. Emma and OJ and their precious baby girl is living with Lori and Ryan at this time so plan on feeding 4 adults and one child. Be sure to contact Lori or Ryan to make arrangements for meal drop offs. She would love to visit with you if you have time to stay and if she is feeling up to company! If you are able to visit, switching loads of laundry or folding a load would be welcomed! MEAL IDEAS (here is a list of meal ideas in case you need suggestions. This is not a complete list!): soups and stews especially if they're made with bone broth, chicken fried rice made with brown rice or cauliflower rice, lemon chicken, jambalaya with chicken & brown rice (no shrimp), meatloaf, meatballs, Thai chicken soup, Shepherd's pie, roasted chicken with veggies, pork roast, Italian dishes (made with brown rice or chick pea pasta only), pepper steak, chili, chicken & wild rice soup (use brown rice & real spices, no Uncle Ben's packet), white chicken chili, sweet potatoes, butternut squash soup with chicken, egg roll in a bowl, chicken salad, egg casseroles, honey chicken, curry chicken, etc GIFT CARDS: Chipotle, McCalisters, La Parada (local Mexican restaurant), City BBQ, Texas Roadhouse. I have also listed some gift card ideas on the main page on the right hand side. Fresh Thyme gift cards would also be a huge blessing as they get organic produce there so Lori can juice. CLEANING: Supplies will be provided for, including gloves. We estimate the cleaning would take around 2 hours. (She may ask you to switch loads of laundry or fold a load, but focus will be on cleaning). BUYING ORGANIC PRODUCE: If you would like to provide organic produce for Lori, here is a list of veggies and fruit she uses when juicing. It is very important that it is organic! carrots, celery, beets, apples, ginger
