Supporting the Nebels

Moseley, VA

Story

Justin Nebel moved his family from Wisconsin to Virginia in 2023 to join VCU’s Pediatric Research Office as the Executive Director of Research Strategy and Operations. He has proven to be an influential leader and powerful change agent at the organization. Outside of work, he is a family man who enjoys spending time his wife, Sima, and their four children. Over a period of a few months, Justin experienced growing health concerns including fractured vertebrae and severe pain in his back, which limited his range of motion and overall quality of life. Upon further testing, he received the shocking diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma and quickly began treatment with a bone marrow biopsy and chemotherapy. Many within Justin’s circle have expressed desire to support him and his family during this emotionally and logistically challenging time, so we created this ‘Supporting the Nebels’ care page as a way to show them love, provide updates, and share what forms of support would be most helpful to them throughout this journey. On this page, you’ll find a place to leave a message of encouragement, view wishlists and calendar of needs (these will be updated as time goes on), and a way to send a Care Card — a convenient, versatile gift card option that allows the Nebels to choose from hundreds of retailers so they can get what they need most in the moment. Check back periodically for updates!! Thank you for rallying around Justin, Sima, and their kids during this unfortunate chapter. **Important Reminder** You must be logged in to view the updates we post about Justin’s journey. If you haven’t already, take two seconds and create an account and follow this page.

Special Notes

Based on Justin’s treatment schedule, dinners on Fridays and Saturdays will probably be most helpful, but meals are appreciated by the family any time/day of the week! Brief visits are welcomed! The family just asks that you wear a mask, sanitize your hands, and ensure you are symptom-free and haven’t been in close contact with anyone who is sick. Also, if you plan to visit their home, please note the Nebels have a bigger dog, Miles, that is sweet but sometimes jumps around.
