GRIMM DETERMINATION: a Community 's Quest For Brontë's Recovery

Portland, OR

Story

SUPPORT BRONTË ON THEIR JOURNEY TO RECOVERY On Monday, March 17th, Bronte Grimm was admitted to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with stroke-like symptoms. Since then, they have experienced paralysis on the right side of their body, losing feeling in their leg and arm, and are struggling with substantial vocal aphasia. To make matters worse, they have been suffering from multiple daily seizures that have yet to subside. Initial CAT scans and MRIs have ruled out a stroke, but doctors are still searching for answers. A full battery of tests is underway, but as of now, the cause of Bronte’s paralysis and seizures remains unknown. A CHAMPION FOR OTHERS, NOW IN NEED OF SUPPORT Bronte has spent years advocating for the disabled and standing up for marginalized communities. They’ve fought tirelessly for others—now, they need our help simply to stand up again. Due to the severity of their condition, Bronte will not be able to return home immediately. The hospital has begun working with rehabilitation facilities, and we anticipate they will remain at Legacy Emanuel through most of the next week before being transferred to rehab. HOW YOU CAN HELP Bronte and their partner, Michael, need our support in this difficult time. Michael, who is also recovering from a stroke last year, has been by Bronte’s side every step of the way but is unable to drive. Here’s how you can help: Meals & Groceries – Bronte has severe food allergies, and hospital meal options are extremely limited. Dropping off meals or groceries will be a huge help. A list of Bronte's preferred restaurants and meals is posted below in notes. Transportation Assistance – Michael needs rides to and from the hospital, home, and the grocery store. If you can offer transportation, it would ease a major burden. Gift Cards – INSTACART and UBER gift cards can help cover grocery deliveries and transportation (CARE CARDS BUTTON located below on this page) Financial Support – Donations can be made through Bronte’s VENMO (linked below on this page) to help cover unexpected costs during this long recovery process. Visiting - coming by to help lift Bronte's spirits or relieve Michael for a short time would be incredibly helpful. Calendar below can be used to find available times to visit. We are only scheduling a few days ahead as we await rehab transfer timeline. Messaging - Feel free to shoot Bronte an upbeat message or loving missive through the MESSAGES BUTTON below, which Michael will read out to them as soon as he can. CALENDAR BELOW LISTS REQUESTED VISITING AND RIDE NEEDED DATES We are trying to limit the number of visitors in any given day as Bronte has limited energy and too much speaking can be debilitating for them. Additionally they have been having near daily seizures, sometimes multiple, which are incredibly taxing. We will continue to post updates here as we learn more about Bronte’s condition and recovery timeline. A GoFundMe may be created in the future, but right now, immediate support is crucial. If you’re able to help in any way, now is the time. Thank you for standing with Bronte during this incredibly difficult journey.

Michael Garcia We're feeling a little more confident that can happen now, one day into rehab institute of Oregon and we definitely feel a marked improvement in the care Bronte is getting

Michael, This is Kate, Bronte's friend from the UCC Church. I did a care card, and I can help with rides/visits. Please text me at 208-871-2932, and we can coordinate.
