Story
Abe has an Auto Immune Disorder called Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP). His immune system is attacking itself. It is a disorder that causes the small blood vessels in your skin, joints, intestines and kidneys to become inflamed and bleed. This caused Intussusception (telescoping of the intestines) along with an infection in his small intestines. His bowels are inflamed causing extreme abdominal pain and vomiting. HSP also caused all of his joints to become inflamed causing him trouble walking with little to no mobility at times. It also caused his blood vessels to bleed causing tiny red spots/bruises all over his body, with the worst being on his legs and arms. He can’t eat anything but bland food and can only drink water, Pedialyte and occasionally Gatorade due to the sugar in it. The symptoms could last a month or more and it will likely come back within a year just with milder symptoms. He has been hospitalized as well as several trips to the ER. Please pray for Abe and his family! Grant and Ciara appreciate all of the prayers..and they are givers so please do not feel like you have to make a donation. Your prayers are needed! UPDATE: 3/10/25 Update: Abe is doing much better praise the Lord! Thank you to everyone for all of the calls, text, visits, gifts and most of all, the prayers! He is not 100% just yet but is so much better than he was for the last month. After being in excruciating abdominal pain since February 4, multiple ER visits, a 2 night stay in the hospital and numerous doctor’s appointments he was diagnosed with Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP). A disorder causing inflammation and bleeding in the small blood vessels. It affects the small blood vessels of the skin, joints, and kidneys. It caused purpura (tiny bruises, looked like a rash) pretty much all over his body. He had swollen and sore joints which on somedays made him unable to walk and he had extereme abdominal pain so he would not eat. He had an ultra sound of his lower abdomen and it showed he had Intussusception (telescoping of the intestines). The doctors said that his body corrected itself before they got to do the procedure to correct it , which was good 🙌🏼 We finally got to see the Rheumatologist last week and her main focus is on his kidneys and GI tract. They will monitor his kidneys weekly for a few more weeks and will gradually decrease the checks over the course of a year. We are able to manage the pain with Motrin and he is now on day 2 of no medicine 🙌🏼 His symptoms come and go and can change very quickly. Everyday for 30 days or more, we were waking up to something new swollen or hurting. It has been the weirdest sickness I have ever seen. We are hopeful that he is going to continue to stay pain and rash free from here on out 🙏🏻 UPDATE: 3/2/25 The swelling and stomach pain comes and goes. He is getting back to a regular diet and needing less pain medicine which is progress! We are still waiting on an appointment with the Rheumatologist to get a better prognosis. His pain, swelling and bruising/purpura has lasted longer than what his PCP has ever seen which is why they referred him to a specialist. He has had extensive blood work to check for a variety of things and they are monitoring his kidneys very closely with weekly urinalysis. Keep the prayers coming and we hope he will be 100% very soon!
