Story
Last Sunday 10/27, Cecelia had not been herself and was very timid. She also had some leg pain and later on, a fever at home. No changes on Monday morning. Normally this does not warrant a pediatrician’s visit but this is the 3rd episode in about 2 months that she’s had leg pain. During our peds visit, we reviewed her pain history including confirming the previous negative xray. Dr suggested going to CHOP ER in Voorhees and ordered stat labs and imaging so we can get some kind of answer and sleep in peace. During the Voorhees ER visit, they found an abnormality in Cecelia’s blood so they sent this to pathology at CHOP-Philly for further review and confirmation of diagnosis. At the same time, she was transported to Philly just after midnight. Few hours later, we met with the head of oncology who confirmed that she has Leukemia. Cecelia was then admitted shortly after to the oncology floor. She has since received blood transfusion, platelet transfusions, port insertion in her chest, bone marrow biopsy, spinal tap, and chemotherapy. The first 35 days are going to be pretty aggressive and the side effects may be painful. It would be a complete bull$hit lie when I say we’re ok. At times we are, but Alan and I are angry at the universe. But it is here and we have no choice but to accept it, keeping positive for the girls and for our sanity, praying and hoping for the best, and taking it one day at a time. She truly is a fighter, literally, and will keep swinging. ❤️ Alan and Candice
