After just over a year long battle with a rare form of super aggressive brain cancer, shortly after his 9th birthday Dexter Bezayiff has gained his wings. Dexter was diagnosed in October of 2023 with an aggressive brain tumor, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Giloma (DIPG) that unfortunately comes with a terminal diagnosis. His family and the community rallied around him throughout his fight. Dexter's mom was by his side through everything, she fought to get him into trials and treatments in hopes of a miracle but also in hope of making his time here more comfortable and enjoyable. Two months after his diagnosis the community came together with a fundraiser and blessed his family and another local family with amazing generosity allowing them to travel for treatments and also have some magical trips and create precious memories with Dexter while he was still able to fully experience everything. In September 2024 Dexter was sworn in at the Shasta County Sheriff Department as a deputy. Dexter dreamed of becoming a police officer one day, thanks to SCSO they made that dream a reality for him with his very own uniform and badge! The Bezayiff family embraced life and spent all of 2024 making memories with Dexter and because of their strength and Dexter's courage, he was able to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas and his 9th birthday with his family!
