Story

I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer (the most aggressive kind) on 10/30/24 at the age of 42 after my very first mammogram. It started as stage 1 but is now stage 2. It is probably between 2-2.4cm and on my left side. I joined a trial called Scarlet that aims to reduce chemo toxicity and the risk of heart issues and leukemia. Unfortunately, I didn’t get into the arm of the trial that is testing that. I am however being treated with the current standard of care called Keynote 522. My information will be used to compare the trial results and hopefully reduce these risks for others in the future. The last 2 months have been a blur of doctor visits and testing. Overall, I have a great prognosis. I did my first round of chemo with immunotherapy. I had an adverse reaction to a portion of the chemo called taxol. About 8 minutes after it started, I developed a flush and red rash on my face, ears, chest, and back, along with some lightheadedness and pressure in my stomach/bladder area. The team jumped into action extremely quickly. We were all calm. They gave me and extra dose of Benadryl and then started the chemo again at a 50% drip. My body handled it just fine and while we were they for almost 7 hours instead of 4, I am on my way to being cancer free! 🤞It’s going to be a hell of a year, but my support system is amazing (Eric is seriously a freaking WARRIOR who is going to get me through this. I knew he was the best husband before all this and he has just proven it over and over on this journey) and we will get through this together. Ps- go get your mammograms!

Special Notes

We don’t “need” anything at this time but my friends and family have generous hearts and are asking how they can help. Helping with childcare when we need it is probably our biggest need and I’d love for the kids to have memories of play dates with friends instead of sad times with mom! I’ve included some gift card options for those who want to help but can’t help with the girls. I know that there will be some stomach issues for me as I go along and food will be hit and miss. I worry that a meal train would be a lot of effort and with potentially wasted food. If you’d like to provide gift cards for take out, I’m sure that would be appreciated when Eric and I are just too wiped out to cook! Gift cards or experiences we can use to do with the kids or to distract the kids during difficult times are also appreciated! We thank you for your support during this time!
