Support for the Hudson Family

Smithsburg, MD

Story

On Sunday October 20, Erika was taken to the emergency room with an extreme amount of pain in her head and vomiting. She underwent a CT, MRI and lumbar puncture. It was determined that she had a left vertebral artery aneurysm at the C1 and she was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. When doctors attempted to put a stent in, it was determined that the aneurysm was healing. Further investigation during the Angiogram revealed several arterial dissections. Several issues have been ruled out through testing but further testing is required to determine the cause of this. The genetics team is waiting on several labs to come back over the next few weeks. The theory right now is there is an underlying connective tissue disorder. In the meantime Erika is extremely limited in her activities. She is on several medications, including blood thinners to help manage the risk of stroke. Our goal is to support the Hudson family with anything they may need in the coming weeks such as meals, household help, gift cards etc. They have five children ages 13, 11, 7, 4 and 1. Matt has been off for the week from work and will have to return next week. We are trying to coordinate help at their house with the 4 and 1 year old during the day. If you have time to stop by and help with laundry, vacuuming, playing the kids or just checking in, it would be greatly appreciated by the family.
