Story
Ethan woke up with his eye being blurry one morning. He never had any issues prior to this time in July 2024. He went to have an eye exam, and they referred him to Iowa City, where he was diagnosed with corneal melanoma, a rare form of aggressive eye cancer, essentially, a tumor behind his right eye the size of a marble. He had tried to do a trial through the Mayo Clinic, which involved lots of trips and testing. During all of this, he ended up with a hospital stay at Unity Point due to his asthma from a complication from pneumonia and had to stop the trial during those days. The trial was very hard on his body and had no guarantees of working nor helping, and ultimately he would have to have surgery in 6 months to have his eye removed (enucleation). He has decided to proceed with the eye removal. This will be done at the University of Iowa on December 3rd, 2024, as this is an aggressive cancer and it spreads through the blood. He will also have to have quarterly scans of his body because of it spreading through the blood stream it can show up at any time in his other organs aggressively. He will also have to have yearly visits to Iowa city to have his ocular prosthesis checked.
Special Notes
We are asking if you can give prayers during this time. If anyone would like to contribute we are trying to get a meal train ready to help during Ethan’s recovery so Alyssa can focus on taking care of Ethan and Lucas while still working. They also have medical bills piling up so any donations would go towards those bills. Here is a link to the surgery details if u would like to see what is all involved. https://webeye.ophth.uiowa.edu/eyeforum/cases/279-anophthalmic-socket.htm#gsc.tab=0
