Story
On 10/30/2024 I was 36 weeks and 6 days. I was at my weekly Obgyn appt when due to my high blood pressure my Dr. sent me immediately to Sacred Heart hospital. My blood pressure was still very high and protein was detected in my urine. An emergency C-section was performed. Nico entered the world on 10/30/24 at 11:08pm. He was 5lbs 6ounces. Complications occurred after my c-section recovery and they had to perform an emergency hysterectomy. We noticed a mass on Nico's calf - an ultra sound; MRI and a biopsy was done which was sent to Seattles children hospital. After a week we were told Nico mass was cancer called fibrosarcoma. We could not have done this without the help of an amazing nurse advocating to get doctors to come into our room and start trying to figure out what this mass was. The pediatric oncologist met with us to explain and to go over next steps to help Nico fight cancer. There is a new smart drug Nico will be taking twice a day for the first year. We need to have weekly visits to the oncologist in Spokane (we live in Post Falls, Idaho) for lab work to make sure the dosage is correct and check the side effects. One side effect is lowering his white blood cells. We have two other children Noble 8 years old and Lola 18 months and trying to keep their lives as normal as possible. For myself I am still trying to process everything that has happened and the need to be strong for my family. Thank you for reading about our life right now and hope and pray this smart drug will help fight cancer our Mighty Nico has.
