Story
Recently dad spent a week in the hospital recovering from a major surgery to fix a hernia, blockage & remove scar tissue from previous surgeries. The decision to go through with this surgery was not an easy one due to the complications that could occur. Regardless, we have trusted the medical advice & proceeded with the surgery believing in a better health journey. Surgery went well and he was released to go home. A major victory. I will share the following update to the best of my ability. Yesterday, (3/18) mom took dad in for their follow up appointment where he was rushed to the ER. An infection had set in and created a series of setbacks that included: - Damage to the kidneys - Removal of the hernia mesh that was just put in because it had compromised and crumbled - Removal of an abscess that developed a severe infection in his abdomen Unfortunately, all the work that had just been completed had to be undone. Currently we are praying & believing for a miracle & for God to continue to guide us and give dad strength. We need the following: - Dad’s kidneys to continue to improve - Dads vitals to stay strong - They are unable to close the abdomen due to his tissue being compromised and he will now need to have the strength to rebuild and grow this open wound in his abdomen to close from the inside out. This will take months. - His blood pressure to stay under control and NO more infections - The mental strength to get up and walk to help rebuild what was lost - Protein for his body to rebuild tissue and close the now open large wound This is going to be a long road of recovery and will take many months to heal. I spent time yesterday with my mom, sister and dear family friend Ginnie as he went through his emergency surgery. We do not take this news lightly and are discouraged BUT we will not let it defeat us for the long haul. We are standing alongside dad to cheer him on, advocate for the proper treatment and learn what to do as the waves of this new reality comes and goes. Sharing this here because mom is overwhelmed and is not able to respond to all messages. I will update when necessary and add to this post as we gain clarification. If you want feel free to flood this post with positive messages for dad & mom to read when they are able. Mom has been by his side from the beginning advocating for his life. Surrounding all of our thoughts on worship & having comfort that Jesus has gotten us this far & HE will see us through to the end. He is faithful. Please keep my parents in your prayers! It takes a village 🤍
Special Notes
When it is your day to deliver please check in at the entrance and advise you're dropping off food for Patrick Bissig. They will let you know which floor he is on, make sure to drop off the food at the nurses station and not the room. Also, advise that if you're making a home cooked meal, that you make meals that don't have strong smells due to making Pat nauseous.
