My dad, Ben, affectionately known as Uncle Benny in the softball community, has always been the one to lend a hand, whether through donating his time, or offering financial support. However, now he is the one in need. Recently, he was diagnosed with stage four cholangiocarcinoma, a battle we never anticipated. This diagnosis came after he experienced extreme fatigue and rapid weight loss, leading to a series of tests and biopsies. Without treatment, he was given a prognosis of four months, but with treatment, he has a chance of extending his time to 12-15 months. The treatment plan includes a combination of holistic therapies and chemotherapy, but this requires significant travel and substantial financial resources. During COVID, Dad lost his job of over 30 years, and since then, he and my mom- who is on disability, have exhausted their 401(k) savings just to get by. I’m trying my best to help facilitate them and get dad on disability as he isn’t working. All of this is so overwhelming and rapidly moving it’s hard to keep everything on track. They currently have no life insurance, making this situation even more challenging. We have created this fundraising page not only to keep everyone updated on his condition but also to seek help with medical treatments, travel expenses, and living costs, including eventual end-of-life care. We hope to organize a softball and bags tournament to raise additional funds.
