Love to the Weilers following Emmitt's Surgery

Milford, CT

Story

Emmitt was born on 5/4/24 and he's the sweetest little boy! He was born with what is called unilateral craniosynostosis - a disorder that causes premature fusion of the cranial bones. Normally, these fusion spots - called sutures - are found around the skull, and don't fuse completely until our 20's. They are designed so that the brain can grow along with the protection of the skull, and at the same rate as the skull bones. In Emmitt's case, one of his sutures has closed very prematurely. The risk here is that as he continues to grow, his brain will not be able to have the space to do so. He will need surgery to make sure that he doesn't have severe developmental issues later on down the road. Emmitt is receiving surgery on January 7, with a team of neurosurgeons and plastic surgeons. It will be a long, very invasive and intense surgery, and a long recovery road ahead, filled with lots of uncertainties and a ton of follow-ups. Melissa and Dave want to keep life as normal as possible for Aubrey (age 4), so playdates, daycare pickups/drop-offs, and visits would be welcomed.

Special Notes

Melissa is generally gluten-free, but Dave and Aubrey are not. Emmitt is eating mostly formula but also tries solid foods. The good news is that post-surgery, his diet will resume as normal!
