Story
Brittany Suafoa, a loving wife and dedicated mother of six children ages 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 was in a serious car accident a little over five weeks ago. Three of her children were in the car with her during the accident; thankfully they walked away with minor physical injuries. Brit, however, was not so lucky and suffered severe injuries. One of her knee caps was split in half and the other was completely shattered. Her left collar bone and both shoulders were deeply bruised. On top of that she had a severe burn across her chest and hips from the seat belt. Two days after arriving at the hospital she under went surgery on both of her knees. Immediately after she was placed in straight leg braces for a minimum of six weeks. She had to stay in the hospital for over two weeks until she was transferred to a rehab hospital in town. Since arriving at rehab, Brit’s been working extremely hard to regain her mobility and strength in her legs and feet. Wiggling her toes was not so simple anymore, but she is progressing slowly each day. However, during her therapy sessions she’s had to rely solely on her upper body to support herself and move around. But because of the accident, her upper body hasn’t had enough time to heal and is now in worse condition from when she arrived at the rehab hospital. She cannot raise an arm to put a shirt on without excruciating pain or attempt to brush her own hair. But Brit’s doing her best to stay positive and keep her head up looking forward. She is scheduled to be discharged from the rehab hospital this week to finally return home after almost six weeks.🩷 Doctors estimate a full recovery will take nine to 12 months. Before the accident, Brittany would sew clothing and bake delicious cookies, cakes, cinnamon rolls and breads which she sold to supplement the family income. Tony (Anthony), her husband has not been able to work since the accident as he is now the primary caretaker of their six young children. Modifications to their home are needed to accommodate her condition. Tony replaced the front stairs with a custom ramp so she can enter and exit their home safely. He’s building a bathroom outside because her wheelchair cannot fit through the hallway or bathroom door; these modifications are to name a few. Our family is hopeful we can raise funds for these renovations and also to help with monthly expenses. Brittany is a generous person ready to sew, cook and bake for families or anyone in need. Tony, likewise has the heart of a lion and will help anyone he sees in need. We sincerely express our deepest gratitude for those who have already made monetary contributions, prepared meals, visited and offered prayers for the Suafoa family. We kindly ask for your continued support and prayers through this long road of recovery and healing🩷
