Story
On February 3rd, our beloved friend, dancer, mother, grandmother, gardener extraordinaire, Darlene Smith, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has metastasized to her liver. Now, her daughters are working to take care of her. The cancer is inoperable, she has decided to spend the time she has with family and friends. She has decided not to pursue chemo or radiation and will begin hospice care immediately. She will require care around the clock. As her daughters shift to facilitating her care and comfort, let's support them in all the ways we can that are helpful without being overwhelming. For now, we are setting up a food train that will work on an every other day basis and will adjust as needed. In general, there will be 3-4 people in the home, so keep that in mind when preparing a meal. Visitors are welcome, but visits need to be organized with her daughters so we don't overwhelm. Flowers are always welcome. 💐
Special Notes
Healthy Meals: Home-cooked, gluten-free, high-protein, high-vegetable dishes are preferred. Dairy is ok, but only if it's organic, please. Preferred Proteins: Grass-fed beef and bison, Organic chicken or turkey, and wild caught fish. Darlene has a specific and limited appetite, but is enjoying FOND Organic Bone Broth (Chicken Turmeric/Black Pepper). I will add more details as I learn more. Visits will need to be coordinated through her daughters to ensure that we are not overwhelming the family.
