Ian and Allison Avent - Brookline NH

Brookline, NH

Story

issues currently facing our family. I’ve had a very high risk pregnancy and am currently 34 weeks. The plan all along has been to deliver some time between 35 and 37 weeks depending on my health as we get to the end of pregnancy, accepting that may mean a short NICU stay for our daughter Gwendolyn. We planned around this, my husband was prepped to leave work on leave / work from home for a period to support our family through my c section, postpartum recovery and whatever our baby’s post birth journey may look like. My doctors planned a bunch of testing for today, March 4, and told me to come “bags packed” because they may be admitting me until delivery, which may be as soon as Monday. Scary, hard, but we got this! 💪 Then suddenly we didn’t. Last night my husband Ian fell on the ice outside our home, injuring his back. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he remains admitted. He has broken his ribs, burst the T12 disc in his back and is currently unable to move. We are waiting on neurology for a more detailed assessment. He can “wiggle” his feet, but not control his lower extremities beyond that yet. Right now we are trying to get through today, and do the next best thing. My mother is flying up from Florida to help us tomorrow, but with both parents struggling with severe health issues, Grandma will need as much help as possible to keep things “normal” for the kids. My mother will likely be taking over as the best point of contact for any help neighbors can offer. At this point it looks likely my husband may be transitioning to a rehabilitation facility or with home health nurses. We also have a 1 year old collie who we will need help with. Kids are 8 and 4, the oldest is in second grade.

Special Notes

We have a child who is airborne reactive to black beans in all forms as well as peanuts. I am allergic to carrots. “Simple” kid friendly meals are best. We avoid red dye. We’ve had a few people ask where my daughter with so many allergies (over 40!) can eat out / take out to be able to send gift cards directly. Here is the list- https://chrysanthisrestaurant.com/ (this is next to our house and they have been AMAZING keeping her safe!) https://www.blazepizza.com/ https://www.t-bones.com/ https://www.bertuccis.com/ https://order.99restaurants.com/?location=true&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAApgYWMTZSsaDqEJosG9a5SgLZFy4X&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI88PF_o_ziwMVGUT_AR0ODCDkEAAYASAAEgKZ6fD_BwE

Wishing you all the best. I have a shower chair available if you would like it. I got one when my mom was living with me and I no longer need it. Let me know and I can drop it off on your porch or give it to your mom.

Allison Avent Thanks Dawn, that would be great actually. I had a c section and have needed to sit to shower since and I’m sure Ian will not be able to manage it yet when he does make it home.
