In June 2023, excitement was in the air as Erin and Andy were getting married and plot twist, they were also pregnant! Way to sneak that in just in time, guys! As the pregnancy progressed we had another plot twist! Erin and Andy’s Lil Nugget (Name TBD) decided she wanted to come into this world on her own terms and with a bang. She was diagnosed with two congenital heart conditions. Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) in which the aorta comes out of the right ventricle of the heart with the pulmonary artery, instead of the left ventricle as it’s supposed to. And Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) in which the pulmonary artery and aorta are flipped in the positions they are supposed to be in. Within her first week, Lil Nugget will need to have an extensive open heart surgery. She is expected to be in the hospital for a few weeks before being able to come home. Thanks to early detection, medical intervention, and a heart made up of healthy parts (despite being in the wrong places), the prognosis is positive. She is anticipated to stay with Erin at St. Joe’s until Erin is discharged. At that time, she will be transferred to Children’s for testing, surgical preparations, and surgery. Based on everything our team at Children's can see at this time, while she will need to see a cardiologist for the rest of her life, they do not anticipate that she will need any follow up surgeries or have any restrictions as she grows up. Swimming here we come! All of this leads to Erin needing to have a scheduled, very controlled delivery. Currently, Erin is scheduled to give birth on January 29th, but as Lil Nugget progresses this month, that date could get pushed up. Lil Nugget has already shown herself to be very active, stubborn (wonder where she gets that from? *Cough, cough* Erin), and otherwise healthy baby. But, the first few months will be full of many challenges. This page is where we will update you all on how our Lil Nugget is doing, and a place for you to come show your support to Erin and Andy, as they are an amazing couple who deserve all our love and support through this journey. There are many ways you will be able to show support. We would love to get messages of support, to be able to read and keep us going.
