Story
💔 Last week, we received devastating news: our mother Brenda was diagnosed with stage 4 Peritoneal cancer. It’s incredibly rare and extremely aggressive. We all are both heartbroken and furious. I wish I could change things for her. This type of cancer is relentless.. For family and friends mom is on a fixed income and will be losing income due to the nature of her cancer being so aggressive. She's in a lot of pain and has a hard time in the mornings. Her story.... Supporting Our Mom Through Peritoneal Cancer In January, at 64, our mom was diagnosed with stage 1b cancer in her uterus. By February, she underwent a procedure to have it scraped and tested, and in April, she had a total hysterectomy. Unfortunately, the cancer spread during surgery. She began experiencing symptoms 4 months after surgery such as abdominal pain, bloating, swelling, changes in bowel habits, frequent urination, loss of appetite, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and an abdominal mass. Just before her 65th birthday, a trip to the emergency room revealed she had Peritoneal carcinomatosis. A week later, an oncologist diagnosed her with stage 4 Peritoneal cancer. She has a mass on the cuff from the hysterectomy surgery and four other masses in her abdominal wall. The doctor explained there are three groups of people: those who refuse treatment and have a 6 months, those who accept treatment and can live up to 5 years, and those for whom treatment isn’t enough. She also has COPD which makes getting around hard. Her diagnosis as of December is found to have a recurrence at the vaginal cuff with, bilateral pelvic sidewalls, adjacent rectosigmoid colon, extensive peritoneal carcinomatosis, lung metastases. She now has FIGO stage IVB (MMRd+) disease. Very devastating. Our mom's family of 2 and a dog are on a fixed income. During this heartbreaking time, we ask for your support and prayers. Please consider buying items from her Amazon wish list or contributing in other ways. Sending cards, dinners, while your support would mean the world to our family. Let's bring some joy to her with surprise mail and show her she isn't alone in this fight. Thank you for supporting our very special mother. Teal is the color for this specific cancer! And if you'd like to follow her story you can watch for updates. Fun things to know about Brenda... *She loves playing video games. Special Notes
Nothing spicy, low salt, she loves mashed potatoes. A variety of foods: fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Lean protein: lean meats like chicken, turkey, and fish, as well as eggs, peanut butter, and low-fat dairy. Snacks for extra proteins like nuts, seeds, are also important.
