Story
Art was born on July 9 1940, in Olathe, Kansas to Delbert Leslie McPheeters and Lena Ann McPheeters. After graduating from Olathe High School in 1959, he joined the US Marine Corp and served his country for 4 years. Upon return from his service, Art was set up on a blind date with Barbara Buckley. After a few dates, he told Barbara, “ You know we are going to get married don’t you?” Art and Barbara were married on August 30, 1963 at the First United Methodist Church in Springhill, Kansas and went on to have three girls, Heather, Hillary and Hayley. In 1972, Art purchased a partnership as a co-owner of Sir Knight Formal Wear. He not only established a business to provide formal wear to the community, but the store became an opportunity for employment for years for multiple high school students and college students creating the Sir Knight Family. Art sold Sir Knight in 1995 and finished his career working as a Vice President of Sales for Homer Miller Co. in Oklahoma City. Although he was a quiet man, Art had a mischievous side. You would never know if he was “pulling your leg”, but could always figure it out by the grin on his face. Art was an outdoorsman, gardener, Rotarian, magician, hunter, poker player, practical joker, mechanic, singer, Sunday School teacher, patriot, campaign volunteer, artist and friend… but most of all he was a loving husband and father. Art worried about everyone and was always the first to pick up the tab, help someone move, assist those in need, not for attention or thanks, but to serve and care for others. Arthur is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Buckley McPheeters, Father Delbert , Mother Lena McPheeters, and Brother John McPheeters. Art is survived by his daughters Heather Robinson, Hillary White [son-in-law Tobin White],Hayley Thompson [son-in-law Michael Thompson], Sister Donna Luther, his six grandchildren , Benton Koenig, Emma White, Jace Robinson, Xin Ai Robinson, Mitchell Thompson and Madelynn Thompson and many family and dear life long friends.
Special Notes
The Thompson Family recently had to move out of their home into an Airbnb due to a water issue. They will have some family at their airbnb starting tomorrow through Sunday. To help take some of the pressure off them the blessing page is extended to 11/17. Hot meals are great, but next week DoorDash will be best.
