Story
As many of you all know Lena Romano , a graduate and a long time resident of Old Forge Pa , and now of South Carolina is in need of Our help and support . Little back story . Lena was Born with a Congenital Heart defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) , Which is essentially a half of a heart . At the time of her birth , there was no set treatment for babies born with this condition . Thankfully , a highly skilled surgeon at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia went against all odds and all rules and decided to do an experimental procedure on Lena to fix her heart . The surgeon was Dr Norwood . Today babies born with HLHS undergo the 'NORWOOD PROCEDURE' and do pretty well . Lena underwent two open heart surgeries at the ages of 3 and another at the age of 5 . For years after her surgeries , Lena was able to Live a somewhat normal life . In college Lena suffered a few strokes, which she was thankfully fully able to recover from . In 2012 she suffered a massive stroke, which left her with difficulty speaking . After a year of intense therapy , she was finally able to communicate properly again , She made once again a full recovery and went on to doing what she loved best , sing in bands and be the free spirited individual she was meant to be . Lena Moved to South Carolina where she met the Love of her life Josh . In 2021 , right before Lena was supposed to travel to Jamaica for her wedding , she went into heart failure . She was barely able to walk down the aisle at her wedding in Charelston , but she somehow made it happen . At that time she underwent her 3rd open heart surgery , where she had a permanent pacemaker placed . She was put on multiple heart failure meds . Miraculously, Lena recovered again and was able to go on with her everyday life for almost two years .... Until NOW . The last few weeks, Lena increasingly became short of breathe . She went into the hospital to make sure everything was ok, and was told her heart is failing again . After exhausting all treatments , the only other option is now Heart and Liver Transplant . Patients with HLHS end up with Liver failure due to the decreased blood flow , Lena is one of the longest living people in the world with this Defect . Lena continues to be strong be supportive to her HLSH Communities . She has been an inspiration to many people and many families with loved ones who suffer from HLHS. There is no telling when Lena will receive the tranplant's, and will be pretty much bed bound and wheel chair bound until her surgery .She will be out of work for months , until surgery and after surgery . As of now with her limitations , she can no longer cook , etc and also She will likely have to make the move to Nashville , where she will have to stay so she can be closer to Vanderbilt , where the surgeries will take place . Lena continues to be optimistic , caring , and selfless all going through the worst of the worst . Lena is a true Inspiration , and the strength she has is like no other . She is a true WONDER WOMAN . Please help me in helping her make this time less stressful for her and her family . Right now we are aiming at doing a Meal train for her while she is at Home .And will then be focusing on Her stay in Nashville .
