Rallying around the Moore Family

Newport News, VA

Story

One of our own team members need our support while his wife and son recover from Kidney Transplant surgery this December. Chris Moore is the Public Affairs Team lead at C3BM. He joined the Air Force at 17, married Kim at 19, and they had Zach in 2003, after being married for 5 years. He’s now 21. While stationed in England, and Zach was 18 months, he was diagnosed with leukemia. Kim was pregnant with daughter, Jaden and they started his treatment, which lasted 3.5 years. The toxic chemo damaged his kidneys, but not to the point of dialysis. Over time, his kidney function slowly worsened, and that brings us to today. Despite all of these hardships, this family's resilience and faith are inspiring. Zach is now a senior at Virginia Tech majoring in behavioral and cognitive neuroscience and slated to graduate in May. He is looking to hopefully start his master's next fall. He’s a part time EMT and also teaches youth group at the local church near campus. Kim currently volunteers at church teaching teenagers, and also coaches ladies volleyball at the local community college. Chris retired from the USAF in 2019 and has worked as a civilian since 2020. Here's where we come in to show them that they have a community standing by their side: Kim is scheduled to donate Zach's kidney to him on Dec. 10. She’ll be at Sentra in Norfolk, and he’ll be at the Children’s Hospital next door. Kim will be inpatient for a couple of days and Zach will be there for several days to a week, all depending on how things go. The hospital is across the water and takes about an hour to drive each way. Kim’s folks will be there to help. Jaden will also be there, but they need our support to focus on recovering as a family. Please consider looking at their care calendar below to donate your time, meals, or simply leave words of encouragement.

Special Notes

We will keep the site updated as we get closer. Some of the meal request locations and times may change, depending on how long Kim and Zach are in the hospital. Chris' Cell is (843) 860-2877
