Story
Hi everyone, This is Joricia, Josiah’s sister. I’m reaching out to share something deeply personal and to ask for your support for my incredible brother. Josiah was born with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) - a painful and life-threatening inherited blood disorder that affects hemoglobin, causing red blood cells to form a sickle or crescent shape. These misshapen cells block blood flow, depriving organs of oxygen and triggering excruciating pain episodes known as Sickle Cell Crises - which can last for days or even weeks. Watching Josiah navigate life with SCD has been both nerve-racking and awe-inspiring. He is a true Sickle Cell Warrior! Despite the challenges, he has never let this disease define him. Josiah is an avid hiker, a passionate musician at his church, and - against all odds - he achieved his dream of becoming a Commercial Instrument-Rated Pilot. But SCD has taken its toll. He has already undergone hip replacements in both hips due to avascular necrosis – one of the devastating consequences of the disease. With Sickle Cell Disease, the risk of organ failure, infections, and reduced life expectancy is a constant reality. For years, our family prayed for a miracle. We never imagined that a cure for Sickle Cell Disease would be possible in our lifetime. But now, that miracle is here. Josiah has been given the opportunity to receive a bone marrow transplant - an actual cure for Sickle Cell Disease! Even more incredible, our sister Jocele is a 100% match for the stem cell transplant. Words cannot express how grateful and hopeful we are for this next chapter in Josiah’s journey. However, this life-changing procedure comes with significant financial challenges: the recovery process will be long - seven months in total - with the first 100 days spent in strict isolation to protect his fragile immune system. Even after that, for one year, he will require frequent hospital visits, an intensive medication regimen, and a strict diet. This is where we need your help. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. Your generosity will help cover: . Medical bills and medications not covered by insurance . Living expenses during Josiah’s recovery . Transportation to and from the hospital We are beyond grateful for your love, support, and prayers during this time. Thank you for standing with Josiah as he fights for a future free from Sickle Cell Disease. With love and gratitude, Joricia
