Kyle “The Show Goes On” Collett

St. Augustine, FL

Story

On July 10, 2023 Kyle was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma on his tongue. After an incredible surgeon at Mayo Clinic deviated from the “standard of care” for this type of cancer, instead of going straight to surgery, Kyle underwent three rounds of chemo and immunotherapy to shrink the tumor. Thankfully the chemo was effective. Kyle will undergo surgery on November 1st to remove the rest of the tumor, the lymph nodes, as well as reconstruct his tongue with tissue from his left arm. The surgery is called hemi glossectomy with radial forearm free flap reconstruction. This is a major surgery and he will be in the hospital for 7-10 days after. Kyle will begin radiation about six weeks post surgery. The road ahead is bumpy, but Kyle has managed all of this like an absolute rockstar and will undoubtedly continue to do so. This page was established as a place to share updates and messages for Kyle as he will be completely focused on healing and recovery in the coming weeks and may be unable to respond to calls and messages during this time. We love and appreciate all of you and are so thankful for the outpouring of love and support. Keep it coming because THE SHOW GOES ON!

Special Notes

Please no visitors at the hospital and remember that calls and texts will be difficult for Kyle and Emily to respond to during this time. The recovery will be lengthy and as much as we would love to see everyone, visits to Jacksonville should not be planned at the moment. We will keep everyone posted for when visits can be planned!
