Story
Hi, I’m Rachel (Kimble) Cheuk. I’m a 42 year old mom of two wonderful daughters, Madison (6) and Willa (3). We live here in Portland, Oregon. After having ab pain (that I thought was a pulled muscle), I visited urgent care the day before Thanksgiving (2024), where I received an unexpected CT scan which ultimately turned out to be metastatic Colon Cancer (spread to the liver, which was causing my pain). In hindsight, it probably explains my (being a mom) fatigue. Given our situation, we wanted to expedite the process and were able to do so at City of Hope in southern California and started chemo treatment on December 26th (what a crazy holiday month!). The plan for now is to continue receiving chemo treatments every two weeks with checkups every two months to see how my tumors are responding (the goal is to shrink them enough to do surgery to remove the cancer). We’ve been super blessed by our support communities and our medical support. And as much as it’s not been fun, we’re blessed to have it discovered now while we can respond with treatment (and we’ve come to discover that progress in colon cancer gives us a real shot!). It’s been nice to get help with my sister and mom coming into town to help with the kids (some have asked about helping us that way, let us know, we’re game for visitors and have space!)…and so we’ll lean on you (our community) and our faith and move forward. Here’s where you come in. To take something off our plate and help Rachel on her tired days, we’re asking for some meal help. And good thing, we’re not picky and happy to get anything we get (maybe even a little excited to discover new things). If meals don’t work for you, no worries, we are open to other ideas (feel free to be creative). And if prayers and good vibes are your jam, we appreciate those as well. Thanks ahead of time for any and all of your support!!!
