Story
“Tomorrow morning I’m having brain surgery. It’s called a sub occipital decompression with c1 laminectomy. I’m scared. I may be on the side of dramatic right now but I I haven’t been able to reach out to everyone. I may not say it enough but I love you. If you’re my friend and we ever walked through any period of life together, I love you. So now I’ve said it and now you know. I love you for infinity“ “Update: just got heparin shot to avoid clots. Will get another one in the morning. Also another blood draw in the morning and if all looks well, I can go home. I miss my children so much and can’t wait to see them. For now, I’m going to try to get some sleep. Lord knows I need it. “ “ Hanging in there today. Continue to keep me in your prayers. I feel they are working. I had some minor issues with balance , speaking (like combining words or not able to say the word at all) I still can’t swallow well enough to eat true solids. I have to mush my food. good thing I haven’t really been hungry. The headache is still out of this world painful. Just imagine a gunshot wound, jackhammer and MVA all in one ya might get somewhere in the vicinity of my pain. But I will get through this. I’m reading more about my condition and feel hopeful for my future. I know it’s gonna be worse before it will be better but I’ve overcome so much.... I TOTALLY GOT THIS. Love you all for your tremendous support and confidence in me. The cards, letters, text, calls... I’ve never known I was so loved. Thanks for telling me what I mean to you, that I’ve inspired you and that you’re proud of me. On my dark days which have been few so far (I’m on ya week out) those positive messages have really made me push through. God bless you all. Xoxo.“ “ Beside the removal of the base of my skull I had the cervical laminectomy as well. I’ve tried best I can to answer as thoroughly as I can what is happening with me. I hope this helps more. I am in such a fog right now and not ignoring anyone. I’m not pushing anyone away or closing doors. I’m just in the process of HEALING. As always so much love to my friends and family. I got this. 💪“ “ Lord, y’all pray for me ok. Remember God made us ALL his special chil’ren On another note, Dr appointment tomorrow. I have some pretty serious swelling and pain. I’ll keep you all up to date on what add Z has to say. Sending out my love. Xoxo“ “ I’m aware September has come and gone but MY Chiari is here to stay My husband Scott Oldendick has been awakened by me many times due to cries of pain, night terrors, or just bc I’m alone. During my visit with ARNP Maine’s we discussed my lack of sleep. She gave me Robaxin to try. I know it’s just the first night but presently I’m wide awake, tears pooling in my eyes and nothing left but to say my prayers. Night one Robaxin 0 insomnia and pain 1“ “ Last nights migraines were so intense I didn’t actually fall asleep until around 4 am. I prayed a lot last night and asked God to just let me rest. Jesus stayed with me all night. I know God loves me and has a plan for me. He has a great healing coming my way and I am ready. Trust in the Lord.“ “ I can’t tonight. I’ve been strong. I’ve said I’m gonna fight this. But tonight my meds aren’t helping. I’m breathing excessively fast and this bag of frozen potato’s can go straight back to the freezer. I’m adding an additional 5mg to the 10 roxy I’ve taken I’m praying Lord brings me our of this ams I’m the morning I’m calling my dr. PleSass pray I make it through the night. I know pains never killed anyone? Those ppl never brain surgery 💯“ “ I’m being admitted I had mri’s w/wo I had a chest X-ray my 6th covid test (neg) Fever of 101.4. I don’t know anything else. I’ll update you all soon as I do.“ “ Still waiting on my results from infectious disease. Not sure what the bacteria is or I’d it was anything other than excess fluid. I can since the wash I’m in less pain when it comes to turn my neck left and right. I’m being a huge crybaby. They are trying to discharge me ASAP. First sign was the heparin shots. Second the straight up “ya don’t got to go home but ya can’t stay here” attitude from the first dr I saw and the second who told me to talk with a social worker. We (including) the Drs know how my first early discharge went. I’m gonna fight this if it means going to a rehab facility a few days. “ “ Today has been a truly blessed day. My second brain surgery went well. Got to see-my daddy today. He Visited with me in the hospital for awhile. We had a great talk really needed to see and be with my father today❤️ Received a true blessing from a true friend and her family. A forever friend. Someone I would be proud to call soul sister. She knows exactly who she is. I’m Awww struck as not expecting this at all. 💉🩸🔬💉🩸🔬💉🩸🔬💉🩸🔬💉🩸🔬💉🩸 Tomorrow I get a picc line for a bacteria I can’t name yet bc it has yet to be identified. I will have this ic line in for 6-8 weeks and continue on with oral antibiotics 4-6 more weeks“ “ I had to be reopened washed andThe bottom two bandages to the left and right are covering my pic line incisions that allowed all of the staph to flow out May be From as all of those years of headbanging during the 90s or the horrible bike accident I was in against the neighborhood kid or truly is just a really horrible case of the Chiari malformation“ “ Update: 6 stitches have been added. I was sleeping and oozing Nader is filled fluid. I tested positive for staphylococcus a few days ago so I’m gonna stay one more day to ensure the leaks are under control. I request your continued prayers. God bless all of you.“ “ I just want to thank God for all the blessings in my life. It may look from the outside a terrible pain filled mess but he has his plan and I am patient.“ “ Update: Just had my PICC line looked at Via x-ray due to chest pain’s that I’m having. I will be sent home today as long as there are no problems with the picc line. I am looking forward very much to going home and being around my family this is all very good news I am very excited“ “ Second morning update Still much pus and leakage. Dr is clueless but is going to confer with his group of neurologist. Please keep me in your prayers 🙏🏻 pic in comments for weak belly’s. “ “ New update: Doctors want to sedate me using ketamine to place a few more sutures in hopes of stopping the drainage fluid this has me incredibly terrified“ “ Update: Ouch Also I never ever ever ever ever ever ever want ketamine ever again in my life“ “ Today was difficult. today started off with minor nausea some temporal pain and some residual pain from my sutures, nothing more, or so I had believed. unfortunately when I woke my pillow case was covered with CSF which stands for cerebral spinal fluid and this is not supposed to be coming out of my body so it had to be reported. After reporting the leakage to my nurses they reported their summary to my neurosurgeon who made time to see me today. he brought with him a neurosurgeon student which is fine, and began to discuss options. It was not discussed until around 330 when the neurosurgeon and emergency medical team came in my room and advised me the best option would be to Sedate me using ketamine. to suture the wound since the original lidocaine injections only inflamed the area making it much more difficult to get a tighter stitch so, after being completely shaken and scared beyond any level of fear I have reached before in my life- I agreed to allow this procedure to happen. All can tell that there was success with my suture but there was so much pain and so much difference because of the ketamine just an absolute out of body experience that I never want to re-create again . truly is a psychedelic drug that should be at all times administered by a professional so anyone who is out on the street seeking a special K I advise you to seek help and enter stop what you’re doing because This medication is dangerous #Chiari #chiaristrong @ University of Cincinnati Medical Center“
Special Notes
What is Chiari Malformation? Chiari malformation is a structural defect in the back of the brain. Children may be born with this malformation or can develop it later in childhood. There are four types of Chiari malformations. Chiari I and II are the most common types, while Chiari III and IV are extremely rare. Conditions associated with Chiari I Patients with Chiari I may develop a syrinx, scoliosis, and/or have a tethered spinal cord. A syrinx is a fluid-filled cavity in the spinal cord. It can lead to a number of neurological problems. These include muscle stiffness, weakness and pain. Surgeons typically do not operate to correct the syrinx. But surgery to correct the Chiari malformation may relieve these symptoms. A syrinx can cause scoliosis an abnormal curvature of the spine. For some children, treating the Chiari malformation can alter the progression of scoliosis. In other cases, children may need additional surgery to treat the scoliosis itself. In rare cases, a child with a Chiari malformation may have a tethered spinal cord. This means that their spinal cord is attached to tissues around the spine in an abnormal way. A child may need surgery to correct the tethered cord, in addition to treatment for the Chiari malformation. Children with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) may be at increased risk for Chiari I malformation. EDS is a connective tissue disorder that causes hypermobility and unstable joints. Conditions associated with Chiari II Two serious conditions associated with Chiari II are myelomeningocele and hydrocephalus. A multidisciplinary team can help diagnose and treat these conditions. Myelomeningocele is a severe form of spina bifida, in which a portion of the spinal cord and surrounding nerves stick out from an opening in the spine. Children with myelomeningocele sometimes have other medical problems, including hydrocephalus and heart defects. Hydrocephalus is a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and spinal cord. In addition, some children with Chiari I or II have some form of sleep apnea, in which they stop breathing temporarily during sleep. Treating the Chiari malformation may eliminate or lessen the sleep apnea. Please take a bit of your time and help this family. Amberly is a great mom, wife, and a MA student At Christ College, working in pediatrics and internal medicine as a registration clerk who helps other people every day. Over the last several weeks she has had 2 brain surgeries, on top of infections and other issues. Please take a moment to read her FB timeline story that I have added.
