Story
Emily has been my friend for decades—more than half my life. And there at the times when others turn away. She was the first to offer to feed me no matter the outcome of my revealing my accidental pregnancy with Luke. She brought toddler Luke to Germany — SOLO — to meet me at Toy Fair. We’ve shared countless milestones over the years, from creating beautiful products together at work to laugh-out-loud moments like my wedding, where my husband-to-be had to rush off to help then-very-pregnant Emily after she locked herself out of her car on the way to the ceremony. With our wedding flowers. Emily has always been a source of strength for everyone around her. Now, she needs that strength more than ever. Out of nowhere, Emily was diagnosed with Müllerian cancer—a rare and aggressive form that doesn’t show up on routine tests like Pap smears. She found out after a trip to the ER, unable to pee, that a tumor, now known to be enormous, displaced her bladder. The road ahead is long and uncertain. She’s already faced challenges with her first round of chemo, enduring an allergic reaction severe enough to require an EpiPen. Despite this setback, Emily is courageously navigating a plan that involves multiple rounds of chemo, upcoming surgery, and months of recovery. Her treatment will require her to take extended time off work, with only half pay and no guarantee of job security beyond six months. The physical demands and the risk of germ exposure make her work environment unsafe during this fight. Emily has always been defined by her long red hair—a cascade of nearly four feet she never cut. Now, in preparation for chemo, she has shaved it all off. Superwoman strong — and fiercely independent, Emily accepting this help is proof-positive of how much she needs it. She needs to focus on fighting and healing. This is where we come in. Donations will help cover medical expenses, living costs during her leave from work, and any unforeseen needs as she navigates this incredibly tough journey. I am organizing this support from afar with her kids, Sebastian and Bela. Help us root for Emily and remind her she’s never alone in this fight. Join us in uplifting and cheering her on. Perhaps with a meal, perhaps with a gift card, or a donation, or just a text that says GO, EM, GO!
Special Notes
As we get details of specific needs, we will update here. Not sure yet.
