Story
My name is Jacqueline Zuvich, also known as Jacquie. This is the summary of the medical story of my sister, Susan Moreines, also known as Susie. On April 9th, 2022, Susie was feeling poorly, and she was jaundiced. A medical appointment was scheduled with a GI specialist that determined there was a mass obstructing her biliary flow. On April 11th, this specialist installed a stent because of an obstruction in her bile duct. The stent was inserted to alleviate this issue. This was just the start, of a long complicated path to a diagnosis. This unfortunately was only the beginning. After several scans, biopsies, and other procedures, Susie's medical specialist determined that the diagnosis causing all of these symptoms was a rare form of cancer known as cholangiocarcinoma, otherwise known as biliary duct cancer. This is a rare, aggressive form of cancer, that only affects 12,130 people in the United States yearly. A decision was made by Susie and her immediate family, that she would work with the medical team at the Cancer Institute of RWJ in New Brunswick, headed by Dr. Patrick Boland. Susie herself decided to proceed with Dr. Boland and his team based on their empathy, professionalism, and caring nature. Chemotherapy was initiated on July 8th, and will continue on a scheduled basis as determined by Dr. Boland and his team. Her cancer will be evaluated throughout her treatments, to provide her the best possible care moving forward. If you would like to follow Susie's story, I will provide updates on her medical treatments and condition on this site. Special Notes
If anyone would like to send meals, please contact myself or my sister directly. Please keep in mind that her diet has recently changed. She needs to adhere to a low fat, non-greasy, and low dairy diet (mostly avoiding cheeses). Please try to send healthy meals that she can share with herself and her family. Any extra support would be appreciated in this difficult time.
