Love for Carolyn and family đź’—

Story

This was written in November. Check out latest post from Dec 2nd and come visit Carolyn at the new location! Sign up on calendar below! ------- Hey dear friends and family ❤️ We wanted to share an update about our beloved Mama Carolyn, who is now at Swedish Hospital. Over the past few months, Carolyn has been experiencing major health issues. In the last three weeks or so, there was a rapid decline in her condition, to the point where we thought we might be saying goodbye to her in the flesh just a few days ago. Weeks ago, doctors discovered some neurological concerns, potentially connected to vascular dementia and other symptoms, along with atrial fibrillation and a few other complications we’ve been trying to piece together. When her condition worsened so suddenly, we were led to believe there was little we could do besides provide comfort. Dani flew home from Ethiopia, and Luc returned a few days later—it has been a deeply emotional and tender time. However, through a series of fortunate events and intuition, we decided to take her back to the hospital and urgent care. There, we learned she had pneumonia, a blood infection, and dehydration—conditions that were treatable. The last few days have been a whirlwind, as this new information shifted everything. It’s been confusing, as we were under the impression from doctors over the last weeks that the rapid decline was permanent and untreatable. Now, with two days of care in the hospital, Mama Carolyn is showing signs of improvement. She’s a bit more aware, and there’s some light coming back to her. While the underlying neurological concerns remain, we’re hopeful and deeply grateful for the extra time we appear to have with her. It’s still unclear how much of the dementia symptoms were induced by the pneumonia, dehydration, and infection, but we now feel there’s space for more moments together—however many days life and Carolyn want to give us ❤️. Dani has had to return to Ethiopia temporarily and Luc is here with Mom and we will keep everyone updated. If you’d like to visit her, we’ll share some ways to make that happen soon—she would love to see you all. Your love, care, and support mean the world to us and to her. With love and gratitude, Luc and Dani

Special Notes

We are creating this page to help out with a number of things and to loop in our loved ones who want to know how Carolyn is doing and those who want to find ways to visit, connect and send their love. Our family is working together to provide the most comfort for Carolyn in the hospital with visitors and messages of love. Luc and Dani are both traveling back and forth to visit and be here as they can and Ron is home and can use helping hands of time, meals and help with things here and there. Please use the calendar below to find a time to visit Carolyn and check in with Luc or Dani on specifics if you have any questions.

- Hey, Carolyn. If you call the main number at Alderwood, 425-775-9222, I believe they can transfer you to Carolyn’s room phone. It may be easier to talk to her using that but she has her cell phone with her as well (just not sure if ringer turned on, will check that later today)
