Support for John and Stephanie Wimmer

Schenectady, NY

Story

John battled Non Hodgkins Lymphoma including going through many rounds of chemotherapy and radiation and finally a stem cell transplant (utilizing his own stem cells) and was in remission for almost 7 years!!! For the past 6 or so months, John has been feeling ill again. He couldn't eat, he was losing weight. The doctors could not figure out what was wrong. He started coughing up blood, passing out at home (which caused him to have a cervical fracture). He hasn't been able to eat. They found something growing in his throat but aren't able to biopsy it because of everything else going on. They were finally able to diagnose him with Addison's Disease and Myelodysplastic syndrome which is another form of blood cancer. There are six levels (the higher the level the worst it is) and John is at level 6. He is currently in the hospital now and it about to start his fifth week of being there. They placed a permanent feeding tube. They gave him his first round of chemotherapy, which he will need every four weeks in hopes of getting him into remission. If he is able to get into remission, then he will need another stem cell transplant (but from a donor this time). Right now, his platelets are under 20 that he needs a transfusion every other day. He is being discharged from the hospital after 5 weeks. He still will have treatments almost every day so Steph is going to have to drive him back and forth to a clinic 6 days a week. Plus she has the pups to take care of too. Anything that you can do help!!!!!

Special Notes

John cannot be around anyone that may be sick! Even if you have a family member that is sick it is best to stay away!!! His immune system is basically nothing!!
