Story
Hello Friends, I am starting this meal train to support our dear Maria Medina and her family. It has not been widely shared, but Maria's family has been dealing with significant medical situations for most of this school year. Maria's husband, Mark, had been working out of town in October when he fell ill. After being sent to the hospital it was determined that he needed a life saving heart valve replacement. There were many complications after his inital surgery that lead to a ventilator, tracheotomy, and an additional open heart surgery due to hermorraging in his chest and heart and fluid in his lungs. After several weeks in the hospital in Tennesee he was finally able to come home to finish his recovery. Once he was finally been recovering from his heart surgery and complications about 4 weeks ago Mark suddenly suffered a very serious stroke to the right side of his brain. The stroke has left him paralyzed and blind on the full left side of his body. He is still in the hospital and has a long road ahead of him. Mark and Maria have 5 beautiful children, four daughters and one son (two of which attend school here) and this has been mentally, emotionally, and financially difficult for them. It is time for the Longhorns to unite. I would like for us to provide meals for the family for the next two to three weeks. Maria is back at school during the day, so you can simply bring the meal to school and drop it off with her at the media center, or you can bring it to my classroom and I will make sure it gets to her by the end of the day. If you would rather support other ways I will take any monitary donations and get Visa gift cards that Maria can use for groceries and/or gas money to get to and from the hospital. Anything you are willing to give would be appreciated.
Special Notes
There are no dietary restrictions for the family, and most of the kids will eat anything ;). I am working with Maria's daughter Eileen about foods and snacks that the kids love and hate.
