Story
Hi Everyone, Many friends and family have reached out asking if I could set up a meal train to help during my upcoming surgery, so I wanted to provide some context and share what’s been going on. About four years ago, I began experiencing pain in my right arm, which has progressively gotten worse over time. A year ago, the pain intensified significantly. Initially, it was thought to be a lesion, but it quickly turned into what’s now considered a tumor. I’ve undergone three biopsies—two needle biopsies and one open biopsy—all of which have come back benign. However, over the past year, the tumor has more than doubled in size and has now consumed more than half of my right humerus. We’ve been searching high and low for a specialist who can help, as this is a very rare condition, and none of the doctors we've found have experience with it. My entire medical file was sent to UCLA for further evaluation. After two months, UCLA reached out to my doctor and strongly believed the tumor is cancerous. My doctor still doesn’t think it is cancer, but respects UCLA’s opinion, understanding why they may be concerned. The tumor’s aggressive nature makes the possibility of cancer likely. Originally, my surgery was scheduled for April, but it has been moved up significantly. I will be undergoing a Proximal Humerus endoprosthesis surgery with a total reverse shoulder replacement (They are removing my humerus and replacing it with a cadaver joint and prosthesis shaft). I’ll be in the hospital for about five days, and it’s still uncertain how long I’ll be out of work—likely a few months. I’m asking for lots of prayers for healing and, of course, for the hope that it is not cancerous. Thank you all so much for your support and love during this time.
