Supporting the Welch’s

Story

Hello all. I am writing today to ask for your help to help a family that has for so long helped others. My buddy, friend and neighbor Wild Bill Welch who is also an Officer of the American Legion Post 1977 in New Lenox as well as a decorated combat veteran is ill and his family is in desperate need of assistance. Bill was in the Marines from 1980-84. He was in the United States invasion of Grenada, Operation Urgent Fury October 1983. He then went to Beirut in the wake of the bombing. He finished his tour in 1984 receiving an honorable discharge. Bill was part of the amphibious assault force. Bill currently continues to give back in assisting Vets that return home by mentoring them and getting them acclimated back into civilian life. This hero now needs our help. Bill is hospitalized at Northwestern Medical Center with a debilitating cardiac ailment. His beautiful bride hasn’t and won’t leave his side. But once again we have a family facing the dilemma of passion, care, love and commitment versus making sure they have what they need to eat. At this time we are asking for gift cards. Cathy is at the hospital 24/7. She is also sleeping at the hospital to be there for Bill. So gift cards from either visa, grub hub or uber eats will change her life tremendously. Once they transition home I will change the focus on delivering them home cooked meals. But we are not sure when that will take place. If you can, please give a little to make a huge difference in this family’s life. If you have any questions, please shoot me a text or give me a call. My number is (708) 277-4562. Sincerely, Joe Marrotta, Chaplain, American Legion Post 1977, Riders.

Cathy Welch Thank you so much for your kind (and funny) thoughts and prayers! That is fine if you would like to let others know Bill is back home. He will have his valve repaired, we are told on April 21st. We hope to discuss his remaining issues over the phone with the doctors tomorrow. In the meantime, I know he is really missing all his squad members and can't wait to come back. I will be a while yet for that per the doctors. Thank you again! Love Cathy and Bill
