Supporting Carolyn & Woody

Charlotte, NC

Story

Hi everyone, You have been invited into the meal train to support Carolyn & Woody after Carolyn's surgery. We all know by now that she came through the procedure with great success and now on to the healing! Woody will be point of contact for her physical recovery in the hospital and after she gets home. I know we all love and treasure them greatly. I also know how overwhelming the physical recovery can be, not to mention responding to endless text messages and phone calls. My hope is that this meal train eases some of the challenges in the days to come and allows for Woody to focus on caregiving and Carolyn to focus on healing. If you do not fancy yourself a "good cook", there are other ways to support by sending a gift card for them to order a meal or groceries. To make that easy, I have added the option here. They will get a virtual gift card that can be used whenever and however they wish. Carolyn's sister will be here Sunday 3/16 through Saturday 3/22 to help out so be sure and take that into consideration if you sign up for meals during that time. If you have any questions about this meal train or something else, please feel free to text me at 704-492-3000.

Special Notes

Thank you all for supporting Carolyn & Woody in whatever way is possible for you. While we know Woody is fully capable of taking care of Carolyn during recovery, we are supporting them both because I think we all know that the caregiver needs care also. Details and suggestions for their needs are below. For the first couple of weeks, Carolyn needs to be on something close to the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast). Obviously this is not all she can eat, but the foods need to be bland(ish), low in fiber, easy to digest, and gentle on the stomach/digestive system. If you're unsure, you can always google "BRAT diet recipes/ideas". Remember, they can always add salt or other spices as she is able to manage. Easy to reheat or prepare meals for breakfast/lunch/dinner. To last 2-3 days. Don't bring food for the freezer as they will have more food coming within a few days. They do have some food/staples in the house so you do not need to provide 3 meals a day or condiments. SUGGESTIONS/REQUESTS: BREAKFAST Oikos Triple Zero vanilla yogurt Fruit (bananas, oranges, tangerines, melons, grapes) LUNCH Iceberg lettuce for salads (other leafy greens are too fibrous for the first few weeks) Soups - brothy, not cream based (no beans, corn, cabbage/leafy greens) Sandwich fixings: Black Forest ham, whole grain bread, romaine lettuce (for Woody) Potato salad Avocados DINNER Soup/stew, Chicken (white meat), Salmon/other flaky fish Mashed potatoes Well cooked vegetables such as carrots, zuchinni, green beans, sweet potatoes, potatoes TREATS Pudding Yogurt Plain crackers-saltines Fruit - fresh or canned/jarred: peaches, pears, oranges/tangerines, melon, grapes REMEMBER - LOW FIBER - BLAND - EASY TO DIGEST NO RAW VEGETABLES NO LEAFY GREENS (spinach, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, etc) NO FRIED FOODS NO FIBEROUS FRUITS NO PEELS on cooked potatoes, sweet potatoes, fruits (apples, pears, peaches, etc) LOW DAIRY/BUTTER in prepared foods NO FATTY/FRIED FOODS NO NUTS/SEEDS LOW SUGAR PERSONAL PREFERENCES: NO ROSEMARY & NO ASPARAGUS
