Monday September 30th, Katelyn went to the ER with chest pain, shortness of breath just, and just overall feeling like crap. The last time she felt this way, was when she was pregnant with Nova she had a Pulmonary Embolism two years ago, so she thought that’s what might be happening again. No Pulmonary Embolism but the CT showed a huge mass in her chest. She left the er so many questions, and so much fear. Next she had an appointment with oncology, they set up a PET scan and a Biopsy, we’ve been waiting for almost a month for Answers and finally we got them. Katelyn has B Cell Lymphoma, we are almost positive it’s primary mediastinal non Hodgkins lymphoma but have not got the final results from pathology. The mass is too large to operate on, and typically they don’t operate anyways because where the cancer is, is an important part of her body she needs anyways so they can’t just take it out. Tomorrow she goes to get a biopsy of her bone marrow to make sure it didn’t start from there, unfortunately if it’s in her bones she will be considered stage 4, As of right now she’s considered stage one because it has not spread anywhere else in her body and is just in her chest. We have had small wins through this journey this is one of them so we need HUGE prayers that it’s not in her bones! She gets her port put in next week and a echo to make sure her heart functions are still good being the huge mass is abutted to her heart. Chemo is tentatively set to start Nov 5th we have to get on top of it because the mass is growing every day , this is a fast growing aggressive cancer so we need to start now! The chemo will be 6 cycles 5 day in hospital treatment and then two weeks off repeated 6 times! Katelyn WILL beat this cancer with the support of everyone around her who loves her!
