Kevin Martin, a member of the Austin community for over 20 years, is currently facing one of the toughest battles of his life. Recently diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoma, Kevin's journey began in August when he started experiencing intense digestive pain and unexplained weight loss. After weeks of discomfort, a CT scan revealed several alarming masses in his abdomen, prompting a series of tests to determine if the masses might be cancerous. During his hospital stay, Kevin faced an emergency surgery due to a leak in his intestine, which posed a significant risk of becoming septic. Surgeons discovered several large masses and numerous smaller tumors throughout his intestines. They successfully removed the largest masses and reconnected the affected areas, though many of the smaller masses still remain. Following the analysis of biopsies, the diagnosis confirmed T-cell Lymphoma, a rare and aggressive cancer affecting less than 15% of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma patients. Despite the challenges, his medical team is optimistic, planning an intensive treatment regimen that includes six months of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant to give Kevin the best chance of overcoming this disease. Kevin enjoys kayaking and bicycling around Town Lake, riding his motorcycle through South Austin, adding to his beloved collection of figurines and spending quality time with his daughter Sabrina and their beloved pets at local parks around the city. However, the coming months will bring significant changes as Kevin and Sabrina navigate this difficult journey together. With hospital visits, chemotherapy sessions, and the need for substantial rest during recovery, financial strains are inevitable. Sabrina will need to take time off work to support her father, adding to their financial challenges as Kevin considers the daunting prospect of a second job during treatment.
