Supporting Shannon

Columbia, TN

Story

My darling friend, Shannon has asked me to post an update on her behalf. As you may remember, Shannon posted as she was headed in for some routine cataract surgery. Unfortunately, the surgery did not go as planned and Shannon is currently left with no vision. This condition will not improve in the near future. She has several appointments and markers to get through including additional surgeries. Shannon is such a sweet, caring, strong and loyal lady. I know she would appreciate as many prayers as possible as she learns to navigate these obstacles and opportunities. She is a mighty warrior and our persistent love and prayers will only serve to strengthen her. I believe it. I was able to call her. She is really something. She was losing vision in her right eye (she’s had no vision in her left eye since 8th grade.) So the Doctor found a macular hole in the back of her eye and she had a cataract in the front of her eye. They were going to deal with the cataract first as that was the “easy” surgery. After the cataract was removed, they were replacing her lens and it fell into her eye. The eye isn’t strong enough to hold the lens. 😞 She can see light, but that is all. She will have surgery on the back of her eye which sounds terribly uncomfortable as she has to be bent at a 90° angle for the surgery and recovery. After that heals, she should have limited vision. The next step after that will be to try a contact lens with glasses to restore her frontal vision. Warmly, Nikki Jane
