Story
This page was created by Janice’s daughters to keep everyone updated on her road to recovery. We have a long journey ahead, so please keep checking for updates. Please use this as your source of information and for scheduling visits. We appreciate your care and concern, however, it can be challenging to respond to all the texts and calls. The event: On Tuesday, November 5th Mom felt a sudden pain in her head. The worst headache of her life. She had been outside gardening but promptly went inside and called 911 herself. Dad, hearing aids removed and playing bridge in the back room, realized something was wrong when a policeman came knocking at the door. Janice was able to walk outside before being placed on a stretcher and taken to the U of M hospital, a premier medical facility. This would start the long road to recovery. Testing revealed she had ruptured an aneurysm in her brain, and was bleeding into the space between the brain and the skull. This is known as a subarachnoid hemorrhage, or aSAH for short. There is no way around how serious this is. But, after a failed attempt to repair through coiling, the craniotomy aneurysm repair was a success. This repair involves removing a section of the skull to access the brain, placing a metal clip at the base of the aneurysm to stop blood flow, and then replacing the skull section and closing the incision. But it comes with many risks. And we are not out of the woods yet. One doctor told us to think of it as phases. Each phase of recovery comes with new progress and new risks. And she may get worse before she gets better. We appreciate all the warm wishes, hugs, and positive energy you can send our way as we navigate this challenging time.
