Story
Dear family and friends, As you have heard, Chelsea was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She went in for a mammogram and ultrasound on August 6th, after finding an abnormal lump in her left breast. The images were concerning to the radiologist, so Chelsea was scheduled for a needle biopsy on August 17th. The results came back on Friday, the 20th of August: invasive carcinoma of no special type. Immediately following the call with the radiologist, a nurse navigator from Swedish First Hill called us to get the ball rolling with an oncologist. Just several days later, on Monday, the 23rd, we were able to meet with a wonderful oncology team. Although the previous weeks had felt slow in terms of receiving care, ever since Chelsea was diagnosed, it has been all-hands-on-deck. Thankfully, this is a very treatable form of cancer, and the physicians believe Chelsea can expect to live a healthy, cancer-free life following treatment. This will be a long year (or more), with many decisions and treatments along the way. The current plan is to begin chemotherapy, starting on September 24th. The treatments will be every three weeks for twelve weeks. Depending on how the cancer responds, a second round of chemo will be administered every week for up to twelve weeks. Our more joyous news is that right in the middle of this, we discovered we are pregnant! We are extremely thankful, and despite the difficult timing with the cancer diagnosis, we believe it is absolutely God-ordained. The diagnosis has not overshadowed the joy of new life—praise God! What’s more is that our oncology team includes a surgeon who specializes in breast cancer during pregnancy! The oncology team has reassured us that starting chemo in the second trimester will have no adverse effects on the baby’s health. What a blessing! By the grace of God, we are handling all of this with open hands and feel absolutely secure in our trust in Him. He is good and His mercy endures forever. We know our feelings will fluctuate as we move through the hardships that we face, but our hope is sure in Christ. He is our rock and salvation. In the coming months, we will be using this page to provide updates, photos, prayer requests, and tangible ways that you can support us during this time. In the meantime, we simply invite you to join us in prayer as we walk through this challenging, and exciting time! Our love and hugs, Bino and Chelsea
