Story
Rachel has recently been diagnosed with stomach cancer and will be receiving chemo treatments biweekly. Rachel and Jeremy could use hot meals on the weekdays of her treatment along with other spirit-lifting treats. This cancer it has dramatically affected their eating habits, so please see the special notes for meals they can eat. They are also accepting take-out from Jimmy Johns, Potbelly, Falafel Kabob, and Edgewater Tacos (please see below for the spreadsheet with their family orders). They could use our love and support. Jokes, hugs and laughter are welcome. Link to take-out orders: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13s2fjdA0_gAPrVcTCwC1cDoZdkB0uyaJDctu2EMMoSQ/edit?pli=1&gid=0#gid=0
Special Notes
NEW UPDATE: Thank you for the incredible support of Rachel and her family while she undergoes bi-weekly chemo treatments! Rachel recently met with a team of doctors who take a comprehensive approach to fighting the cancer by creating an environment where the cancer cannot thrive. The good news is that YOU can help with this! We will continue to request meals for the family on Rachel’s chemo weeks. Thank you for the wonderful meals you have already brought. Originally we posted a “favorite meals” list, but you do not have to limit your meals to that list and lots of variety is encouraged. If possible, try not to bring something that has been brought by another person in the last two weeks. See this list for takeout orders (please no more Jimmy Johns and Potbellys). These meals will continue to serve Jeremy, Georgie and Weezy. We are adding on “Rachel Meals” made specifically for Rachel’s dietary needs. The idea is that a few people can bring reheatable high protein meals for her to eat throughout the week. Multiple servings of the dish would be appreciated so she can eat them throughout the week and freeze for later. We might even request the recipe from you if it’s a hit. Essentially, we are looking for meals that contain the following: High Protein (beans, high-protein grains) Vegan (no meat, but may contain eggs) No cow’s milk dairy, but goat and sheeps milk is good Variety of vegetables (cooked vegetables are easier for her to digest) Minimal butter No seafood No mushrooms For a comprehensive list of the good and bad things to eat, click here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HgmPBxgvjZOkiDduKlrDseLjXjNiZWbZvNIhgcIB-IA/edit?usp=sharing If you’ve already signed up for a meal for the family, thank you! And feel free to change your meal to something not on the list. When bringing a meal, please set a personal reminder, as Give in Kind reminders might be missed or sent to your spam folder. There will be more dates added for April and May once we’ve confirmed the chemo dates. If you are looking to bring more, please sign up for the “Rachel Meals” on Tuesday. Thank you for your incredible support of Rachel and her family! Previous notes: Please note that food safety is paramount. Please make sure all meats are cooked fully. Please wash hands before handling food. Nothing from a buffet salad or hot bar. Please no seafood. Please no spicy food. Some of the family's favorite meals include: Broccoli cheddar quiche Turkey Meatballs Turkey Meatloaf Mashed Potatoes / sweet mashed potatoes Shredded/ pulled (crockpot) chicken dishes Cooked veggies Pizza (limit toppings to pineapple or plain cheese) Soup (no mushrooms, no tomatoes, no seafood, no red meat) Couscous and quinoa If you are inspired to be creative with your meal, please simply follow the guidelines. If you have any questions about meals or anything else please contact Jeremy at 401-793-0505.
