I'm Rebecca and I am a single adoptive mama to 5 amazing kiddos. They're all complex behavioral and medical needs - so there's always some crisis happening. Life is never boring, but we embrace the shit show. I can't imagine a world where I wasn't bouncing from physical therapy to counselor appointments. The past 3 months have not been the easiest for my family. We had to spontaneously move homes in October due to mold/health concerns. We hadn't even unpacked when 2 of my boys ended up hospitalized with Mycoplasma. Things got worse and Cameron ended up in the PICU. During this time, he experienced a severe seizure that exuberated his previous stroke damage/added additional brain damage. We lost years of language, skills, and mobility in those 13 minutes. Not to be outdone, my other son James, started chemo, for his NF1 deletion, the same week Cam came home barely able to walk. November and December was spent appreciating the important things like family, getting our lives adjusted to our new normal, and trying to keep Cam & James out of the hospital. (We weren't able to stay out of the ER - but managed to not get admitted! :P ) Optimistic of what 2025 was going to bring. The decision to stop chemo for James meant that options like school based learning were back on the table and Cameron has slowly been building strength/getting back. Things were on the uphill climb! Unfortunately, that's when I decided to take a tumble down some stairs and break my foot/ankle in a massively dramatic fashion. The injury is severe enough that compartment syndrome and perm disability were discussed early days. However, after MRI, CT, and more xrays, I not only double as a night light - but will hopefully be whole again in 6-12 months. However, in the short term, I must be on strict bed rest with my foot above my heart except for brief periods of the day limited to a max of a few hours. This turns out normal shitshow schedule into an Olympic event as I am unable to drive, walk, carry, or even help Cam up if he falls down without risking further perm injury to myself. As always, we are taking it all in stride with a lot of Dr. Pepper, dark humor, and profanity sprinkled in. It's also handy that most of the modifications I had been working on for Cam, apply to me now! Two for one special on shower chairs!! Woot Woot!! I'm not typically one who asks for help, but it has been made clear that there are people who want to try to do that. So I figured I'd create this page and if it goes somewhere - great. If not - no worries. As always - we will adapt and take it as it comes.
