"Supporting a Grieving Military Widow: Your Help Can Make a Difference"

Ladson, SC

Story

As the holiday season approaches, we’re reminded of how difficult these days can be for those who are going through tough times. I created this page to offer Cheryl a way to see how much she is loved by others and to help lift her spirits during this challenging time. Recently, she lost her husband, Ron, a CW2 Warrant Officer in the United States Army, who served an impressive 23 and a half years, including as a Vietnam Veteran. He was not only her life partner but also her primary caregiver, doting on her and taking exceptional care of her. Now, Cheryl is navigating life alone while managing multiple sclerosis and diabetes. Our family has been helping her as much as possible, running errands and assisting with tasks that are difficult for her due to her condition. We check in on her regularly, ensuring she’s getting the help she needs, but the reality is that she’s still facing significant challenges every day. With the holidays fast approaching, the loneliness and difficulty of these days are amplified, making it even harder to navigate everything on her own. Currently, she is relying solely on Social Security, and we’ve been told that additional benefits may take quite some time to process, if she even qualifies. Cooking meals has become especially difficult for her, as she struggles to stand for long periods. As such, we’re looking for ways to make her daily life a little easier and ensure she has access to meals by providing gift cards for her to purchase food or enjoy a meal out. In addition to the meal cards, grocery support, or even monetary gifts for essentials would be tremendously helpful during this time. Beyond the tangible needs, kind words or small gestures of encouragement would also be incredibly comforting to her. She’s been through so much, and I know she could really take solace in knowing there are others out there who care. Our family, deeply rooted in the military community, has come to love this family as our own. We live nearby and check on her regularly, but any additional support from the community would make such a meaningful impact. Every small gesture, whether it’s providing a meal card, helping with groceries, or offering a kind message, makes a difference and brings comfort during this difficult time. We know that Ron would be smiling down, happy to see us continuing the care he so lovingly gave to Cheryl. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. Your help, no matter how big or small, will make a lasting difference and is deeply appreciated. With heartfelt gratitude, Jamie Batten
