Story
An update from our family: It is with profound sadness we share the news of Daniel Grant Royer’s passing on the morning of March 16, 2025 from pancreatic cancer. Born on October 5, 1983, Dan (or as many close to him called him, Danny) was a beloved father, husband, son, brother, uncle, grandchild, cousin and friend. Known for his courageous, adventurous, kind, compassionate and--most of all--loving spirit, Dan is greatly missed by all who know and love him. Dan and his family were, and continue to be, deeply grateful for and touched by the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and their community. There will be a celebration of life in his honor at 2 pm on April 6, 2025 at Bad Weather Brewing. All are welcome and attendees are invited to bring memories to share and an instrument to participate in an open jam. Food and beverages will be provided. If you're able, RSVP to Hollis at holliscemery@gmail.com, via text at (510) 847-6178 or online at https://tinyurl.com/35avd3sx Background: This site supports Dan, Hollis, and the kids, and gives us all a way to rally around them and show them how loved they are. We will update this page as their needs change and the family will post updates on treatment and progress. Thank you for your support! In mid-September, Dan was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon that pancreatic cancer is asymptomatic until it’s fairly advanced and that proved to be the case. Dan went into urgent care for some abdominal discomfort and the scans showed the tumor had already metastasized to the liver. He started chemotherapy at Regions Hospital in Saint Paul soon after the diagnosis, supported by a great team that includes palliative care healthcare providers, dieticians and social workers. The current plan is chemotherapy every two weeks. A follow-up scan, scheduled for November 22, should show the extent to which treatment is slowing the growth of the tumor and Dan and his oncology team will make plans from there. For the past few years, Dan has been a busy stay at home parent with an even busier 4-year old and 3-year old. They’ve enjoyed getting involved in the communal garden near their home in Saint Paul and scouting out all the amazing libraries and playgrounds nearby, traveling via e-bike as much as possible! The fatigue resulting from the illness and the treatment have certainly altered day-to-day life and the family is so grateful for the community of family and friends who have already reached out with kind words, offered well wishes and helped with meals, childcare and yardwork, especially on treatment days and when Hollis, a nurse, works overnight at the hospital.
Special Notes
For meal delivery, please go ahead and text Hollis to let her know when you will be dropping off the evening’s dinner. If no one will be home, there will be a cooler on the porch for drop-offs. No one in the family has known allergies and they like pretty much everything! Please add what you will be bringing on the calendar so that we can make sure we aren’t all bringing the same things over and over 😊
